MODO School of Fashion offers two different programs; a full-time program for fashion entrepreneurs and a weekend course for industry workers looking to grow their skillset.

At MODO, we believe that learning never ends. We offer weekend programs targeted at tailors looking to learn something new or to grow their skillset. Our weekend program will be two full days on Saturday and Sunday at our design studio in Gulu.

This is our one-year program that is designed for women who are looking to pursue a career in fashion entrepreneurship. This is a full-time course in Gulu, Uganda that will go train on tailoring, design, business entrepreneurship, and leadership.

Fashion Entrepreneurship Program

Are you new to tailoring? Interested in a career in fashion? Our one-year fashion entrepreneurship program offers holistic training in tailoring, design, business, entrepreneurship, and leadership. The program is full-time and takes place at our fashion school in Gulu, Uganda. The course is designed to empower you with the necessary skillset to lead the future of Uganda's fashion industry.

Introduction to the Fashion Entrepreneurship Program

Clothing is one of the most basic needs of human beings. With the constant change in fashion & style, the stitching of garment also changes. A fashion entrepreneur must keep in mind the market demand and change in fashion technology. Courses on cutting, tailoring, & dressmaking have to be designed to account for the ever-evolving world of fashion. MODO School of Fashion's Fashion Entrepreneurship Program is designed to empower women with the knowledge and skillset to be the best fashion entrepreneurs and to lead the future of Uganda's fashion industry.

The course will provide knowledge and training in:

  • -Fashion and entrepreneurship
    -Fashion marketing, strategy, branding, and promotion
    -Use of tools & equipment used in the tailoring trade
    -Sewing terminology
    -Taking correct body measurements
  • -Basic hand & machine stitches
    -Designing, drafting, & pattern making
    -Layout & fabric estimation
    -Cutting, Tailoring & finishing of garments for children, ladies & gentlemen
    -Alteration, defects & remedies to fitting problems
    -Processes of quality control, packaging, labeling, marking, costing & promotion
    -Sourcing of fabrics and discovery of new trends
    -Skill to construct professional-looking garments
    -Enhancing employability & entrepreneurial skills

  • How long is the fashion entrepreneurship program?

    The program lasts one-year and begins in January 2020. The course is full-time and is located in Gulu, Uganda.

  • Who should apply for the fashion entrepreneurship program?

    The program is designed for individuals with no experience or a very basic understanding of tailoring. The course is offered to any person looking to start a career in fashion.

    The age range for applicants is 14-60.

  • The program will train students on the techniques and terminology of tailoring and design. As well as, offer training on business and leadership to develop the best fashion entrepreneurs.

  • How do I apply?

    Prospective students can apply by visiting the school in person to fill out an application (located above Cynibel in Gulu town) or by calling 0788551482.

  • How much is the program?

    Tuition for the one-year program is around 1,700,000 UGX (~$500). We offer partial scholarships to the program for candidates demonstrating potential and interest but lacking funds.

Lifelong Learning Program

We believe that learning never ends. Our lifelong learning program is designed to give current industry professionals the opportunity to grow their knowledge and learn something new. This program is offered on the weekend at our design studio in Gulu, Uganda. Whether it is learning how to make a men's shirt or a baby's jumpers, come learn something new with us? Launching in February 2020.

Introduction to the Lifelong Learning Program

The fashion industry is ever-evolving and fashion entrepreneurs must be responsive to this. Our lifelong learning program is designed to give current industry professionals the opportunity to grow their knowledge and learn something new. This program takes place on weekends and is 20,000 UGX per course.

The course will provide knowledge and training in:

  • -How to make a specific style of clothing
  • -New techniques in the fashion industry
    -Fashion marketing, strategy, branding, and promotion
    -Use of tools & equipment used in the tailoring trade
    -Taking correct body measurements for the style
  • -Business skills for marketing your new design

  • When does the lifelong learning program take place?

    MODO's lifelong learning program takes place every weekend, all day on Saturday and Sunday, and a new class is offered every weekend. Sign up for one a month, or sign up every week!

    The program takes place at MODO's design studio in Gulu town.

  • How much does the program cost?

    A new lifelong learning course is offered every weekend. Each class is 20,000 UGX (~$5).
